Stark State College
With the Utica Shale exploration in Canton, a need for a new oil and gas training center emerged. SHD investigated and analyze multiple Downtown Canton sites for potential campus development. Preliminary project construction budgets for various building schemes and site locations were developed along with graphic plans and design concepts. From this, recommendations were made to Stark State College.
Once the Cornerstone Building was chosen as the site, a space program was developed for the renovation of the existing building into a new 40,000 sf academic building for a satellite campus. This included classrooms, collaboration spaces and offices for training in the oil and gas industry and several other programs.
The facility is the first comprehensive oil and gas training facility in the State of Ohio.
It is adjacent to the new facilities for the Indoor training lab that includes a full scale outdoor lab with a pump jack and well head, stock tanks, a separator and other equipment.
