Seven Ranges

Location

Kensington, Ohio

Client Name

Buckeye Council of America

Project Description

The Buckeye Council of the Boy Scouts of America made some much needed improvements to the Seven Ranges camp facilities. SHD staff worked closely with Scout executives, camp staff and volunteers to create new opportunities for growth, learning and leadership training of Scout youth.

The new camp improvements addressed the needs of 1) growing food service capacity with the expansion of the Hoover Dining Hall and a complete kitchen redesign with new equipment; 2) and the centralization of housing for camp counselors to a new Leadership Village located on the west side of Lake Don Brown.

The Dining Hall improvements have increased seating capacity to easily accommodate 900 campers and the state-of-the-art kitchen equipment enables these Scouts to be served in under 15 minutes each meal.

The Leadership Village brings all camp counselor staff together for the first time to increase the communication, collaboration and comradery between these youth leaders. It consists of 4 new cabins 1,320 sf each, common bath house, pavilion, fire ring/pit and basketball court. In the off-season, these facilities will also function as "year-round" camping accommodations for both Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts in the colder weather season.

By managing both the design and construction process, SoL Harris/Day was able to complete the Camp project on schedule and under budget. By developing multiple and smaller bid packages, SHD was able to employ more contractors who are strong supporters of the Boy Scout mission and camp. Construction reports (with photos) were developed weekly to keep Scout executives and volunteers abreast of the ongoing camp construction improvements.
