You can't have too much of a good thing... just ask Jim Balzarini, owner of Paramount Tennis Club, who decided to elicit the architectural and construction management services of SōL Harris/Day Architecture again to build a second indoor tennis facility in Westlake, Ohio. Opened for play on August 23rd, the 63,330 sf building is a full service tennis facility that is less than a mile from I-90, located on a beautiful 5-acre wooded site in the Beacon West Industrial/Commercial Development.
Whether you're interested in group or private lessons, friendly Round Robins, sanctioned tournaments or USTA league tennis, this climate controlled environment provides comfort to players and spectators alike. The 52,000 sf of first floor is divided into eight US Open Blue courts (four on each side of a central core area) and the 11,000 sf clubhouse includes locker rooms, a second floor member's lounge and kitchenette, a child care room, and a pro shop.
With our passion for sustainable design, our first step in this project was to develop a tree preservation plan so that many of the mature trees and vegetative areas were spared the saw and chipper. Through careful project planning and construction staging analysis, we were able to avoid stripping the site clean which is so often the 'norm'.
Other green initiatives involved incorporating highly efficient wall and ceiling systems (R-25 and R-30 respectively); utilizing carbon monoxide detectors to provide a more efficient heating and cooling system; and installing a "WATTSTOPPER" lighting control system with occupancy sensors to reduce electrical usage.
Whether an avid tennis player or just a fan, visit the Medina and/or Westlake facilities. You won't be disappointed!
The Medina facility is located off Rt. 18 and was completed in September 2006.
