Over the past year, SōL Harris/Day Architecture has been working with the Perry Local School's Board and Administration to expand Perry High School for the 9th grade students (now housed in Edison Junior High). Phase I ($5M) of the Master Plan includes 14 new classrooms that will be reconfigured from empty vocational shop areas in the existing Career Tech Wing of PHS. And to better handle the increased student enrollment, a new kitchen and cafeteria addition will be constructed adjacent to the existing PHS main entrance lobby and auditorium. Ninth grade students will move to the renovated PHS in Fall 2011.
An interesting element of the proposed PHS addition and renovation project will be the coordination of concurrent HB 264 energy savings projects with Johnson Controls Inc. By working closely together on critical HVAC and lighting systems for both new and existing portions of the building, the Perry District will be able to leverage additional construction dollars and realize energy cost savings.
